At Pro Pavers, we offer supply-only and supply-and-installation services.
For supply only, there are two options for you to choose from: the ordinary grey cabro and the colored cabro. The pricing of the supply only depends on the thickness you choose (50mm,60mm and 80mm) regardless of the shape picked. However, the colored cabro is priced slightly higher than the ordinary cabro due to their different production processes.
When it comes to the supply and install service, the price is influenced by the project’s area in square metres, ground conditions, drainage requirements, kerbs and edge restraints site location and access to site. This is why it is advisable to request a site visit first for proper assessment before any installation can start.

How much does cabro installation cost in Nairobi (Supply and install prices)
For the majority who look for a completed cabro project, we offer the supply of cabro blocks to site and lay the paving blocks as well. Before we can get to pricing, there are a couple of factors we look at the most important one , the ground condition. During our site visit, we check for these key things:soil type , levels, compactness and edges(kerbs/walls). These are what make two compounds or projects of the same area in square metres have a difference in cost. In addition, these requirements are the reason why it’s difficult to give a fixed rate for supply and installation over an enquiry phone call without first assessing the site. We highly encourage our clients to request a site visit for a ground assessment. More on these factors is discussed below in depth.
Typical costs for supply and installation fall between Kes 1300 and Kes 1800 per m2 for sites within Nairobi and its environs (40km radius). These costs cover cabro delivery to the site, quarry dust for bedding, river sand for joint filling, installation labor and any ground preparation work required before start.
Note that projects where the soil type is cotton soil and in some cases, red soil; excavation, among other earthworks, are required (unless they were done during construction) therefore, costs may fall outside the Kes 1300-1800 per m2 range.
SUPPLY ONLY:
| PRODUCT | EX-FACTORY | DELIVERED |
| 50mm ordinary cabro | Kes 720 /m2 | Kes 900 /m2 |

| 80mm ordinary cabro | Kes 1100 /m2 | Kes 1280 /m2 |
| Colored cabro | Kes 1250 / m2 | Cost is determined by weight. |
SUPPLY AND INSTALLATION:
Indicative price range of between KES 1300/m2 and KES 1800/m2.
Factors that affect cabro installation costs.
Several factors that affect the cost of installation of cabro include :
- Ground conditions.
- Drainage requirements.
- Number of square metres.
- Cabro thickness.
- Kerbs availability.
- Location of the site.
- Fluctuations such as fuel.
Ground conditions
The foundation where the cabro blocks are installed on matters a great deal with regard to the longevity of your parking or driveway. A ground surface that is ready to receive cabro blocks is one where stable soil such as murram or hardcore has been levelled and compacted firmly.
Levelling is done to ensure surface runoff flows where required, whereas compacting ensures the ground is firm enough to withstand vehicular weight. Where such activities have not been undertaken, we offer ground preparation and consultation services.
For extreme cases like where a site has cotton or red soil that was not excavated, we are able to offer cost effective solutions on methods to ready the ground prior to cabro installation.
Drainage requirements
Once cabro blocks are installed, the volume of surface runoff increases. The goal is to manage the water away from surface so as to prevent cases where a compound floods. To ensure this , we make sure we get our levels right during the ground preparation stage and because no site has identical ground requirements costs vary from one compound to the other. The ground requirements that influence the costs include: excavation, minor surface trimming(least expensive), and lastly, backfilling. These requirements again, can only be determined after a site assessment is undertaken.
Area in square metres
The size of area that requires paving has the biggest effect on costing which is why its advisable to leave some areas green(lawns, flowerbeds) if budget is of concern and allocate more to where paving is critical.During the site visit , we design and conceptualise such areas with the client and collaborate on a sketch of where to pave and where to leave unpaved.
Cabro thickness
There are three cabro block thickness each with its own price per square metre.
Commercial paving options are mostly 60 mm and 80 mm, depending on the size of vehicles parking or driving over the space.
For a residential compound, clients have the option of choosing between 50 mm and 60 mm thick cabro blocks. The 50mm option however, limits you to small vehicle access (not exceeding 4t). The safe option by market standards is normally 60mm but if on a budget , 50mm still works provided you only allow access to vehicles under 4t.
Fuel Fluctuations
Cabro supply and installation, just like other construction products and services, is heavily dependent on transportation and logistics. Fluctuations in fuel prices are directly proportional to the final landed cost of not only the cabro blocks but other accompanying materials such as quarry dust, riversand, kerbstones, road channels and drainage precast products. The same case applies to equipment such as roller compactors, excavators and dumptrucks.
Sample cabro project cost examples
We will take two identical residential projects we recently undertook and use them to illustrate that each site has distinct ground conditions. Many homeowners focus on the cost of the blocks themselves, but in practice, the biggest cost differences often come from ground preparation and drainage requirements.
Project 1: A RESIDENTIAL PARKING AND DRIVEWAY IN SYOKIMAU
Details:
Area = 200 m2
Location = Mama Round, Along Katani Road. Cabro thickness = 60mm
Cabro type = Ordinary grey cabro.
Site conditions at the time of the site visit:
Murram was backfilled on the parking post-construction. Relatively good drainage slope, the water drains outside the gate. Kerbstones were already done during landscaping.
Ground preparation requirements:
Minor trimming and levelling of the ground . Compaction by roller.
Gate adjustment. Then finally;
Cabro supply and installation.
Project cost: Typical cost range of KES 1400-1450/m2 for preparation, supply, and installation.
Project 2: A RESIDENTIAL PARKING AND DRIVEWAY IN RUIRU
Details:
Area = 200 m2
Location = Ruiru, along Thika Road. Cabro thickness = 60mm
Cabro type = Ordinary grey cabro
Site conditions at the time of the site visit:
Virgin soil, no rock, soft and vegetative.
No slope, water seeps into the ground when it rains, ponding in some sections. No kerbs or existing edges to restrain the cabro.
Ground preparation requirements:
Excavation and dumping. Imported murram fill and levelling. Compaction by roller.
Kerbwork along the driveway and parking edges. Gate adjustment.
Then finally;
Cabro supply and installation.
Project cost: Typical cost range of KES 1945 -2300/m2 for earthworks, supply, and installation
The two projects had the same area and similar cabro block thickness, but had a significant difference in cost because of ground conditions. For project 1 (Syokimau) the ground had good stable soil, whereas for project 2 (Ruiru) the soil was black cotton that had not been excavated post-construction. In addition, there were no edges to lock the cabro in place during installation.
For clients in the planning stage, it’s important to understand that the cost of cabro installation is driven more by site conditions than by area in m2 and size of blocks alone.
Every site is different. The most accurate way to determine the cost of your project is through a site assessment. Contact Propavers for a site-specific estimate based on your ground conditions, drainage requirements and intended use.
FAQ
How much does cabro cost per square metre?
This depends on whether you are looking for supply-only or supply and installation of cabro blocks within Nairobi and its environs. Supply-only pricing is dependent on thickness of the block and cabro type whereas supply and installation is determined by various factors such as ground conditions and drainage requirements. We have discussed the pricing of both services in this article.
Why can’t I get an exact installation cost over the phone?
You can get an exact cost of supply of cabro blocks to the site, but when it comes to supply and installation, no two compounds have identical ground conditions. This is why a site assessment is required before a quotation is issued with the exact installation cost. We have shared detailed reasons for this in this article.
How many cabro blocks are required per square metre?
Roughly 50 pieces per square metre but this may vary depending on the shape picked.
The quickest way to know how many you need is to have the area measured in square metres. However, the blocks are sold per square metre rather than per individual piece.
Can cabro be installed over black cotton soil?
Not directly, in most cases, a portion of the black cotton soil needs to be excavated first, then the same portion backfilled with stable soil. The depth of excavation depends on the intended use of the paving area. A site visit helps determine the best approach.
Is cabro cheaper than concrete?
The best option depends on intended use; however, when it comes to long-term durability and low maintenance costs, cabro blocks outperform concrete.
